1114-ൽ ‘രാജ്യാഭിമാനി’ എന്ന പത്രത്തിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു ലേഖനം സംബന്ധിച്ച് രാജദ്രോഹക്കുറ്റം ചുമത്തപ്പെട്ട മി. വൈക്കം മുഹമ്മദ് ബഷീർ കോട്ടയം ഡി. എസ്. പി. യുടെ മുമ്പിൽ ഹാജരായി സ്വയം അറസ്റ്റ് വരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതായി ഇവിടെ വിവരം കിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതുവരെ തിരുവിതാംകൂറിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കാതെ അദ്ദേഹം കൊച്ചിയിൽ താമസിക്കുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നാണറിയുന്നത്.

സ്വാതന്ത്രസമരത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തതിന്റെ പേരിൽ ബഷീറിനെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത വാർത്ത, 1942 നവംബർ മൂന്നിന് മാതൃഭൂമിയിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചത്.

In Brief: Celebrated Malayalam author Vaikom Muhammad Basheer surrendered himself before the DSP of Kottayam after being charged with sedition over an article published in the newspaper Rajyabhimani. He had been staying in Kochi to avoid entering Travancore. This news of his arrest for participating in the freedom struggle was published in Mathrubhumi on November 3, 1942.
